Echoes from the Stroud Green Festival

Echoes from our Stroud Green Festival  project in June 2019 are right now resounding through the pages of the Minerva Scientifica Website.  We investigated some fascinating women scientists and composers connected with Stroud Green during the 20th Century, with particular emphasis on the Suffragettes of World War 1

You can delight in the voices of the children of Year 4 from Stroud Green Primary School who wrote a fantastic, and beautifully melodic song about the electrical engineer, physicist and inventor Hertha Ayrton.

Discover the fascinating story of a Stroud Green School Head and suffragette Agnes Metcalfe BSc. The whole story of her life and work (and her love of dogs!) is included in the song “Agnes Metcalfe – To my fellow countrywomen” created for the project by Frances M Lynch, which includes a homage to the London composer Ethel Smyth.

Fall in love with the music of composer Madeleine Dring, born in Harringey, very close to Stroud Green. We were thrilled to incorporate two of her songs into the programme – one with the very appropriate title of “Echoes”

Created by electric voice theatre, Echoes is a Minerva Scientifica project that brings together professional performers with community musicians and school children. Together, we raise awareness of the rich heritage and deep connections between music and science, and inspire the next generation of future scientists.
