The 3rd of our October “Echoes from Essex” Podcasts
Essex is full of enterprising and highly ingenious poets and writers, one of whom, Elelia Ferro, worked on the Snapping the Stiletto project. She is joined by Dr Patricia Fara, Emeritus Fellow of Clare College Cambridge and Megan Krempa, a scholar from the University of King’s College, Halifax in Nova Scotia. Together they discuss Essex Girl stereotyping and the poetry of Elizabeth Tollet (1694-1754) who was praised for her mathematical achievements by Isaac Newton.
New settings of Tollet’s poetry by Frances M Lynch reflect the discussion alongside extracts from “Echoes from Essex” sung by the Essex Virtual Choir and the beautiful acapella round “Set me as a Seal Upon Thine Heart” by Imogen Holst.
The series presenter is Frances M Lynch, Artistic Director of electric voice theatre. Part of electric voice theatre’s Essex 2020 Minerva Scientifica project “Echoes from Essex” in collaboration with Chelmsford Civic Theatre.
