 Millman Street Community Centre
London

EVT was honoured to be asked to pop round the corner from Conway Hall to one of the Holborn Community Association Day Centre Groups in Millman Street to give a very special performance from our Eliza Flower project.

We made a new version of
“Flowers of the Seasons – Politics, Power & Poverty”
and tested out their voices in a workshop first  –
their energy and enthusiasm was infectious!

A man is shouting into a megaphone and the audience seated around are mesmerised

‘It was brilliant, lots of beautiful melodies, fantastic participatory elements with audience and altogether a really feel-good event!’

‘I absolutely loved the performance. I will definitely follow this event up.’

WORKSHOPS

YOUNG SINGERS PROGRAMME

After a series on 6 online sessions focusing on vocal ensemble techniques, we got together for a day at Conway Hall to put it all into practice. We invited a small audience to hear the work based on music by Eliza Flower, Frances M Lynch and Anna Appleby. We loved working with this talented group of singers and wish them well in their careers which we hope will include us!

‘It really felt that we were creating something special on the day!’

‘Focusing on the moments we sang together and where we diverted created a harmony within each piece that took me by surprise and I found it very moving.’

‘I have found that I am able to embody the beat better than I have before and am seeing results in the music I am learning’

‘I loved the strength I felt when singing “Song of Polish Exiles”…. a truly powerful piece to sing.’

‘… the participants soon felt like friends, the team so considerate and supportive!’

Christopher Hatton Primary School

Composer & Singer Eliza Flower (1803 – 1846) turned (2)21! on the 19th of April 2024 so ELECTRIC VOICE THEATRE and Conway Hall Ethical Society cooked up a joyful celebration with Year 6 pupils from Christopher Hatton Primary which is just around the corner!
We had a fabulous morning with this very enthusiastic and interested group, singing music by Eliza, learning about her life, and working with Flower Composers, Frances M Lynch and Lilly Vadaneaux to create their own protest songs – oh and there was cake!

I liked the protest song
I loved learning sign language
I enjoyed the tour of the building
I enjoyed hearing the history of Conway Hall
I learned lots about Eliza and her sister Sarah
I really enjoyed making and performing our own songs

Everyone liked the cupcakes!
