CONWAY HALL Library

Tickets from £8 – £22 Details and Booking Here

An informal hour of free-thinking discussion, music, and readings at the fireside of Conway Hall’s historic Grade II listed Library in celebration of our cherished composer, Eliza Flower (1803-1846).

This inaugural event explores the legacy of Flower’s collaborative friendship with the political polymath Harriet Martineau (1802–76) on the 150th anniversary of her death, and that of Flower’s natural successor at South Place Ethical Society, the prolific composer Emily Josephine Troup (1853–1913).

The music includes Flower’s ‘Fellowship’ from Hymns of Modern Thought, which was first revived by Electric Voice Theatre at the Winter Carols by Candlelight concert last year. There will be time for you to browse the exhibitions in this fascinating library and a viewing of the shimmering oil painting commissioned for the project from a young artist – Elspeth Manders.

Presented by Electric Voice theatre and guests:-

Frances M Lynch – Soprano, Artistic Director, Electric Voice Theatre
Oskar Jensen – UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, Newcastle University
Madeleine Goodall – Humanist Heritage Manager, Humanists UK
