Minerva Scientifica Birthday Celebration

Today we are celebrating the 110th birthday of Shena Fraser (1910 – 1993), a composer from Stirling whose work features in many of our live performance programmes. We re-discovered her when we performed “Echoes from the Engine Shed” in Stirling for Historic Environment Scotland.

We are delighted to present Episode 1 of the electric voice theatre Podcast Series “Women of Science & Music: 30 celebrations” in her honour. Through two of Fraser‘s songs we connect to the lives and work of Marine Biologist Nora Miller, and the Astronomers Mary Somerville, Caroline Herschel and Williamina Fleming.
The series presenter is Frances M Lynch, Artistic Director of electric voice theatre with special guests Science Historian Catherine Booth and Dr Gillian Sales, Curator of the Museum of Life Sciences, King’s College London.
