“The Fossil Detectives”

Did St Hilda rescue Whitby from a plague of snakes by turning them into fossils? Or perhaps Yorkshire’s Spider Man, Martin Lister, had the right answer – that God had planted fossils in the rocks at the Creation? The mystery was eventually solved after Mary Anning, a young girl from Lyme Regis, began digging up skeletons of large extinct reptiles. Although some Victorian scientists claimed her discoveries as their own, she provided clinching evidence for evolution and became an international expert in her own right.

A Soundings Event with science historian Dr Patricia Fara and singers from ELECTRIC VOICE THEATRE, with music by Rebecca Clarke (1886 – 1979), Elizabeth Poston (1905 – 1987) and FRANCES M LYNCH

Created by electric voice theatre, Minerva Scientifica is a project that brings together professional performers with community musicians and school children. Together, we raise awareness of the rich heritage and deep connections between music and science, and inspire the next generation of future scientists.
