Young Singer’s Programme 2026 – Free Pop Up Workshop 1
The Listening Performer
This is the first in a series of pop-up workshops which will be offered free throughout the year at the beautiful Conway Hall in London given by the Artistic Director of Electric Voice Theatre, Frances M Lynch. Each workshop is built on an exploration of music by women composers for acapella ensemble and the singer as a flexible performer with a wide range of transferable skills.
Listening
If there is one skill that often gets overlooked, and yet is fundamental to the quality of singing, whether in an ensemble, choir or as a soloist, it is listening.
We will spend this day listening to ourselves and each other as we journey through a body and breath vocal warm up and a series of exercises designed to inspire deep aural awareness, increase confidence and expand each singer’s musical world.
The workshop takes place in a supportive environment and is designed to boost each singer’s professional development both as an individual vocalist and a highly skilled ensemble member.
Music
The use of music by women composers connected with the ethical traditions of Conway Hall including Ethel Smyth (1858 – 1944), opens the way to some new and exciting repertoire both past and present.
There will be short sections of music for you to memorize in advance, so the earlier you apply the better you experience will be. Please email your CV or a link to your website electricvoicetheatre@googlemail.com
If we are able to offer you a place we will ask you to let us know if you would need support with reading music, or have a visual impairment so that we can send the most suitable materials for you.
- It was almost like belonging to a company during the process, working together as an ensemble and bouncing off each other to accomplish a common goal.
- I will continue to use the exercises / ideas taught to me. Every time I sing now, I can’t help but warm up using these practices!
- My favourite exercise was when we walked the intervals
